People with disabilities in Jersey protected from discrimination under new law

People with disabilities in Jersey will be protected from discrimination in future, after politicians agreed a new law today.

An estimated 14,000 islanders are disabled in some way.

The law means that if anyone feels they are getting unfavourable treatment because of their disability – like not getting a job – they can take their case to a tribunal.

It also covers indirect discrimination – meaning businesses that do not have accessible premises may have to make changes.
