A WHEELCHAIR-bound knife victim had his head sliced open by a sword maniac who attacked him at home.
Robert Paterson, 51, was left with other gaping wounds and heavy bruising after the terrifying attack, being treated by cops as attempted murder.
Medics had to insert more than a dozen staples to hold together a deep gash in his skull.
He also required several stitches to close other gaping wounds and suffered deep bruising on his back.
Last night neighbours told how Robert has been left traumatised by the vicious onslaught.
A pal claimed his assailant was a drug addict who went on a rampage with the deadly weapon after Robert had let him into his flat in Drumchapel, Glasgow.

The friend said: “The attacker, who I don’t know, is a junkie.
“Robert, being so nice-natured, had invited him into his house.
“But the bloke had taken drugs and went on a bad trip — he was hallucinating. That was when the guy attacked Robert.
“Robert was hit with a sword and other items. He needed an operation on his wrist.”
Robert ‘wouldn’t say boo to a goose’, neighbours say
Horror images of Robert’s head and back injuries were posted online.
Local resident Anne Fraser, 86, said the sickening incident has stunned everyone in the street.
She said: “It’s terrible that this has happened to Robert. He’s a nice neighbour who keeps to himself.
“I know that he’s in a wheelchair and has hearing problems.
“He is probably too frightened now to even come to his door.”
He wouldn’t say boo to a goose
Another neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said people in the area have been left stunned by the ferocity of the attack.
He added: “Robert has been left with really awful scars at the back of his head and bad bruising on his shoulder.
“Being attacked with a sword like that must have been absolutely terrifying for him. I’m heart-sore for Robert as he’s such a nice man. He wouldn’t say boo to a goose.”
Police Scotland confirmed that a probe is under way.
A spokesman said: “On January 3, at around 12.09am, police received reports of a 51-year-old man being seriously injured within his home in Drumchapel.
“Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.”
He added: “Officers are treating the incident as attempted murder.”
Mr Paterson declined to comment.
