The Bodmin Beast, also known as the The Beast of Bodmin is a wild cat rerported to live on the moors in Cornwall England. Bodmin moor became the hub of these sightings with occasional reports of mutilated livestock: alleged to be a black panther.
A six-month Government investigation in 1995 conducted an official investigation. The study found that there was “no verifiable evidence” of exotic felines loose in Britain, and that the mauled farm animals could have been attacked by common indigenous species. The report stated that “the investigation could not prove that a ‘big cat’ is not present”. Experts found the ‘beast’ was a black cat about 12ins tall after spending the equivalent of £84,000 examining photos and videos, and staging reconstructions.
